Brewing up Something Special for Turtles
by Christine Bowie
The Turtle Survival Alliance recently teamed up with Holy City Brewing Company in a benefit titled, "Drink Beer. Save Turtles." The event, held during Charleston Beer Week was a tremendous success, raising awareness of the plight of turtles worldwide.
The TSA team from the Turtle Survival Center escorted Burmese mountain tortoise "ambassadors" throughout the brewery, providing the opportunity to mingle and "talk turtle" with the many guests of all ages.
In honor of the occasion, Holy City launched its limited edition beer, Gimme Shell-ter, a 7% ABV American Blonde Ale brewed with an all-time turtle favorite, blackberries. Proceeds from the sale of the special release beer will directly impact our global turtle conservation programs. We'd like to extend a huge "thank you" to the team at Holy City for collaborating with us during Charleston Beer Week!
We are also thrilled to announce that Martin House Brewery, based in Fort Worth, will once again be brewing their specially crafted brew Turtle Power in October. Last year, for the first time, TSA and Martin House joined forces for turtle conservation and we are excited to partner with them again this year. The TSA team, including several tortoise "ambassadors" will be attending Turtle Power tasting events in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex throughout the month of October. We hope you will be able to join us. Stay tuned for the full schedule of events.
