Conservation Education Event Held in India

TSA India recently partnered with the Center for Environmental Education (CEE) to increase awareness about freshwater turtles, gharials and other freshwater fauna of northern India. This initiative was spearheaded in conjunction with the Endangered Species Project (Uttar Pradesh (UP) Forest Department) at the Kukrail Gharial Rehab Center, Lucknow. CEE-North conducted nature tours for local schools at the Kukrail Forest Reserve as a part of their Children’s Forest Programme (CFP). The CFP is just one component of the UP – Participatory Forest Management and Poverty Alleviation Project, which is supported by the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA).

TSA India contributed their expertise in freshwater biodiversity to the project and provided technical support, lectures and demonstrations to roughly 1,000 students, representing 14 secondary schools, from both urban and rural districts in Lucknow. In total, 14 sessions were conducted by TSA Educators Bhasker M Dixit and Arunimal Singh between November 18 and December 6, 2013. To accompany the lectures, a wide range of resource materials was provided to the workshop participants. Kudos to the TSA India team for their efforts to inspire the conservationists of tomorrow!
