Countries of origin: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Vietnam

Habitat: Wide variety of shallow, still to slow-moving, heavily vegetated freshwater bodies

Threats: Collection for the food, pet, and medicinal trades; habitat destruction and alteration; pollution

Wild Population: Decreasing; estimated population reduction between 50-80%; highly uncommon in some areas, while still common in others

Conservation: Captive breeding; genetic studies; adapts moderately well to human-impacted areas; protection status varies by country; CITES Appendix II
