TSA Represented at the SE Wildlife Exposition
by Heather Lowe
The crew from the Turtle Survival Center recently participated in the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition (SEWE) in Charleston, South Carolina. The event, which began in 1983 with 100 exhibitors and 5,000 attendees is now the largest event of its kind in the nation. Today, an average of 40,000 attendees come to see more than 500 artists, exhibitors and wildlife experts from around the world!
The mission of SEWE is to contribute to the local economy while promoting wildlife and nature conservation throughout South Carolina. This made SEWE the perfect opportunity for the TSC team to get to know their neighbors! The team spent the weekend introducing attendees to some of the turtle residents of the TSC as well as sharing TSA's mission of zero turtle extinctions.
There was a lot of interest in our conservation projects and the team was on hand to share their knowledge of both the TSC and the TSA's range country programs. We also welcomed new members in our Kid's Club program as many of the children were interested in learning more about turtles. We were thrilled that our neighbors in Charleston were so enthusiastic about our work and we look forward to building relationships with our many new friends.
